A Career in Acting Can Be Dangerous for Your Health
Don’t believe for a minute that actors are able to work even if they are sick. After the show gets over, if the actor does not have short term health insurance coverage, he will not make it to the next show. These are guys who can act through fever and cramps but it does not mean they don’t need medical attention.
Actors are crazy people. They will rather starve than leave a city where auditions are being conducted. They would rather camp outside a theater than go home to sleep in their beds. Just look at the auditions in American Idol. Hopefuls are there as early as the crack of dawn to make sure they get a ticket in.
There is one characteristic about actors that makes a lot of sense. Many of them will spend for their health because it’s hard to nail a job. If they do, and then get sick, it would an opportunity lost. This is why many opt to get the cheaper short term health insurance.
It works for many actors because they quickly pack up leave town when they hear about a new audition in another city or state. They are nomads until they land their first gig. As soon as they find their spotlight, they settle down. The life of an actor is exciting but also very taxing. And that’s another reason they get health insurance.
